Teaching Shiatsu has been an integral part of my practice and passion!
I have been offering Shiatsu CE workshops and ongoing classes for those who are qualified massage therapists since 2007.
I taught at Finger Lakes School of Massage for over 17 years, and then taught Shiatsu and massage at Cornell University in the Physical Education Department's Personal Growth section for 2 years.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I created online Self-Care and Massage courses to support the college students and the clients.
Currently, I am offering the following Shiatu classes which are approved by NCBTMB for Continuing Education credits:

Yumi Asakura, LMT is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education Approved Provider and is also sponsored by NCBTMB to teach New York LMT's continuing education that is accepted by the state of New York for license renewal.
2-Day CE Workshop Level 1 (12 CEUs for NCBTMB & NYS)
Level 1 consists of 4 sections and each section covers one of the 4 Shiatsu positions. Each position class is 2 days, 12 hour workshop, mostly hands-on.
You can take these classes indivisually or take any of these 2-day classes in any order.
Shiatsu Workshop Level 1 - Prone Position

Descriptions: This workshop helps massage therapists who wants to learn the fundamentals of Shiatsu and be able to offer a Shiatsu session on prone (back) position. We will practice on a Shiatsu mat. If working on the floor mat is not comfortable or physically challenged, there is an option to use a massage table. Please let the instructor know in advance.
You Will Learn:
- Benefits of working on the Prone position (the back)
- Introduction to Hara Assessment
- Makko Ho stretch (12 Meridian Stretch) and Do-In (Self-Care) exercise
- Learn the effective body mechanics for Shiatsu
- Learn the meridians and potent points on the back side of the body
- Yu (Associated) Points
- Autonomic Nervous System Balancing
- Hip alignment technique
By the end of the workshop, you will learn the sequence and be able to give a Shiatsu session on the back of the body comfortably and effectively.

Each 2-day workshop offers 12 CE credits for NCBTMB and NYS.
Half-day Shiatsu Classes (4 CEUs for NCBTMB and NYS)
Shiatsu for Massage Table (9:00AM-1:00PM or 1:00PM-5:00PM)

Time: 1:00PM - 5PM, 4CEUs
Fee: $150 ($120 if taken with the 12 hour, 2 Day Workshop on the same week/weekend)

Descriptions: This workshop helps massage therapists who wants to integrate Shiatsu in their massage practice or be able to offer a Shiatsu session on a massage table.
You will learn:
- Benefits and effectiveness of Shiatsu on a massage table
- Body mechanics and learn how to be gentle on your body (save your hands) while applying pressure effectively with ease
- How to integrate Shiatsu with other massage modalities
- Lean effective Shiatsu points and meridians for specific conditions and issues
- Great introduction or refresher to Shiatsu
- How to ground and engage with your center by using Hara (Tanden)
Shiatsu Workshop Level 2 - Advanced Techniques, Meridian specific topics (6 CEUs)
Pre-requisit: complete 2 of Level 1 (i.g., supine & prone), or previous Shiatsu training
Fee: $280
On-going Shiatsu classes for those who would like to pursue more Shiatsu training.
Shiatsu Apprenticeship Training Classes/Shiatsu Journey Class
3 to 4 hours, weekly ongoing Shiatsu class for those who would like to pursue Shiatsu studies and practice in a supportive, fun environment.
Fees: $60 each class

Shiatsu Practice Classes can be arranged.
One-on-One Shiatsu Tutorial/Coaching
Fee: $100 per hour (in person or online) or by arrangement (a discout can be applied to a longer tutorial).
Withdrawals, Refunds & Cancellations Policy
There are no refunds of a $50 registration deposit if you withdraw from a class, or if you fail to attend. The deposit can be applied to another workshop within a year.
No Refunds will be made for classes taken. While I make every effort to provide quality classes and instructions, I cannot guarantee satisfaction with every class offered and will be no refund after the class. I do, however, invite your honest feedback; an evaluation form is handed out at the end of every class for this purpose.
Please also be aware that in order to receive CEUs for a course, you must attend the entire course, and there are no make-ups or partial CEUs granted.
Location for the classes and workshops will be in downtown Ithaca, NY or other locations by arrangement.
